Statement of purpose
The role of the EKMT Museums Service is to enhance the quality of
life of the communities it serves in Thanet and East Kent, by promoting
understanding and appreciation of the cultural and natural heritage
of the locality and the wider human heritage.
The special influence of the sea on the heritage of the Coastal
Communities will be a continuing core value of our work.
This will be achieved by collecting, recording, conserving and
curating evidence of past human activity and where appropriate geological
and other specimens. These collections will be made available to
the public - by a range of methods - to promote interest in and
understanding of the rich heritage of East Kent.

Key aims
Long-term goals
To increase the public awareness of the contribution EKMT museums
make to the cultural life of the area and to strive to increase
this contribution to its full potential.
To provide the best possible care for our collections and the highest
level of public access and service by continually seeking enhancement
and refurbishment of the Museum buildings and infrastructure.
Short and medium-term goals
To continue to work, with other bodies, to investigate, record and
where appropriate conserve and display evidence of the 1703 Great
Storm Wrecks on the Goodwin Sands.
To work with others in developing a new cultural hub in Margate
Old Town - with particular reference to the Turner Centre project
- but focussed on the strengths of our permanent collection.
To secure the preservation of the Trust's Historic Vessels by investigating
all possible funding sources and potential partnerships with other
like-minded bodies.
