Current Projects/ Achievements to Date

  • Identification of Areas of Expertise and Key Collecting Areas for each UKMCS Lead Museum.
  • Production of Live UKMCS Web site, outlining the purpose and nature of the UKMCS.
  • Commenced discussions re joint collections storage initiatives between Lead Museums, with Memoranda of Understanding signed or in process.
  • Commenced discussions re development of temporary touring exhibitions between venues and draft policies prepared and circulated for comment.
  • Co-operation between Falmouth Museum and National Maritime Museum including the long-term loan of 90 boats and other objects from the NMM collections to Falmouth.
  • The Bermuda sloop cruising yacht, Dodo, has been lent by the Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine to the National Maritime Museum until November 2003. It is due to be displayed shortly in the east street of the National Maritime Museum.
  • The National Maritime Museum has lent the Scottish Maritime Museum 36 prints of various vessels relating to the Clyde by the 19th century artist and engraver, Thomas Goldsworth Dutton. They form part of an exhibition on Dutton Prints which commenced on 1st July 2001 and will run until 1st April 2002.
  • 11 paintings were lent by the NMM to the St. Barbe Museum, Lymington, for an exhibition on 'Golden Age of Sail', 7th July - 8th September 2001.
